InsureMe Recognized with Top Philanthropic Award

by Megan Mahan

DENVER-November 20, 2007- InsureMe, a web-based company that helps insurance shoppers get quotes from local insurance agents, was recognized at the state's National Philanthropy Day, with the top award in the small business category.

National Philanthropy Day, which is supported by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is a special day set aside each November to honor individuals and corporations who have donated their time, talent and finances to various philanthropic causes.

InsureMe has long championed philanthropic efforts in the greater Denver area. Its deep-seated value of giving back emanates from InsureMe founder and CEO, Tim McTavish. Historically, the company has given 10 percent of profits to charity, offering an unprecedented three-to-one match for employee contributions, yielding more than $200,000 in corporate donations last year. The company has also extended a dollar-for-dollar match to its network of insurance agents for two years running.

But InsureMe doesn't stop at writing checks. The company encourages active volunteerism, giving each employee one day per quarter for volunteer work. You can also find a team of InsureMe-ans serving dinner to the less fortunate each month at the Denver Rescue Mission.

And while the InsureMe clan understands the importance of giving to their community, they also understand the impact of acting globally. In 2005, InsureMe sponsored a trip to Ghana, Africa, where employees painted a new orphanage for the village youth. Most recently, InsureMe has sponsored mission trips to Juarez, Mexico, where employees have constructed three homes in one year for families in need. Future trips to Juarez are already in the works.

Such efforts have garnered praise from local organizations like the United Way, who honored InsureMe for two years running-first in 2006 with the Spirit of Hope Award, and again in 2007 with the top prize: The Champion of Hope Award.

InsureMe was recognized on the 22nd annual National Philanthropy Day luncheon held on Friday, November 16th at the Denver Renaissance Hotel in Denver.
